PLEASE stop chasing followers (& my ADHD meds catastrophe)

Hi BOLDies,

I was going to go IN on some of the LinkedIn Gurus and their bullsh*t on this week’s newsletter, but I took it to LinkedIn instead. I’ll save this precious space as a warm, enlightening, ‘memes, news and positivity only’ zone. The TL:DR is that there are ‘gurus’ out here charging innocent aspiring brand builders THOUSANDS to take part in their ‘accelerator’ programs, only to teach them how to steal other people’s viral content.

Ethical? I think not.

Anyway, in other news - I had a WILD realisation this week about myself. In short, I realised I was being this guy when it came to my own LinkedIn content..

So I was extremely diligent and sat down last week to plan it all out. I’ve also been investing a lot of time in learning from one of my favourite creators, Caleb Ralston (also my most recent podcast guest - keep your eyes peeled for the episode).

Here’s what I asked myself:

Who am I serving exactly?

What pain are they feeling and how can I help them solve it?

What do I feel strongly about?

It got me really starting to imagine my positioning. I uncovered a very real truth about how I see personal brand and content creation as a whole. I feel REALLY strongly about ethical practice, and creating content from a place of authenticity - where you’re adding real value to your target audience. All done with a focus on generating high-quality leads for your business - and not vanity metrics.

In more personal news, Royal Mail lost my ADHD meds so I’ve been without for 2 weeks now. I’m always careful to discuss the meds (as it’s a very personal choice and I’m not a health professional), but they definitely help me a LOT (Concerta XL 27mg per day). I’m noticing how easily I get distracted without them, for example, it’s taken me about a week to complete this newsletter 😂 (when I have to do any type of ‘long form’ content, I get distracted by absolutely everything in my line of site). My BOLD focus playlist has definitely helped.

On the contrary, I’ve felt calmer, the brain is moving slightly slower (in a good way - IYKYK) and my creativity has been amazing and I’ve been able to see things a lot more clearly relating to my business. This could also be to do with the phase in my cycle (which I’m obsessed with tracking alongside my business/creativity since reading In the Flo by Alisa Vitti). I think moving forward I think I’ll take them 3-4 days per week, with the hope to wind down in the future. Meds are not a forever solution (for me personally), and I do believe I can manage it well through lifestyle measures once my business is up and running like the well-oiled machine I anticipate in 2-3 years 😇

With trying to keep my attention sacred, I’ve also been really mindful about actually ‘consuming’ too much content. It’s such a cheap dopamine hit, and when I watch IG in the morning I feel like it FRIES my dopamine receptors. I really think that switching of images/videos/colour is messing up our brains so much. Please, especially my ADHD BOLDies, be careful of what, and how much you consume.

As a Solopreneur who’s currently testing out lot’s of different tools and platforms for my business, I‘m being BOMBARDED everywhere I turn with bros. It’s like I cannot even pick up my phone, without A. being aggressively sold to, or B. having some bro shout at me about what I HAVE TO DO in order to get sales into my business. F*CK OFF GUYS!

Also - did you know that a lot of people are LYING about what they’re upto? Some of these bros have taken ‘fake it till you make it’ to a whole other level. I’m so naive sometimes and have been known to believe them 👀 .

Don’t let any of this craic fool you - everyone’s just figuring it out as we go, and we’re all on our own journey, with wins and massive f*ck ups along the way. People tend to only share the highlight reel, so don’t let their newsfeed trick your brain into thinking you’re behind..

You’ve got this sis!

And for my meme of the week because MY GOD I felt this in my soul. Why is getting my legs and little Irish toes out SO embarrassing? You know what else I find irrationally mortifying? When I’ve taken my cute self to the park, with my little rug, and I sit for a few hours with my book, then when I finally have to STAND UP AND GET MY BLANKET AND GO I literally want the ground to swallow me whole. Can someone tell me why this happens? Am I alone in this? I also feel it at the beach if that’s resonating.

From the BOLD oven 🔥

I’m hosting a free webinar this Thursday 1pm UK time where I share all the tools I use to help me as a full-time content creator (supporting multiple clients). I absolutely don’t condone using Chat GPT to write your content for you, but it’s incredibly helpful for ideating and using as a ‘thinking’ partner. There are also SO many epic AI tools you can use to help you make writing content far more efficient and effective. I’ll also talk you through the tools that I use for video content, which have shaved about 80% time off my original editing workload. You can sign-up here.

If you can’t make Thursday, we also have ‘Use Your LinkedIn as a Shop Window & Sales Funnel’ happening on 21st August. You can sign up here.

These events have been a really nice way for me to keep myself active this summer while I’ve taken a breather from my live events. Although watch this space, I’m in the process of arranging something. very spicy this September in London with the amazing Andy Ayim MBE - reply YES if you want an invite 😃

BOLD LinkedIn Creator Course is happening in September, which will be 4 weeks of 2x weekly calls (and an accountability WhatsApp group) where I’ll teach you everything you need to know to build yourself a BOLD personal brand on LinkedIn (and create content that turns to clients).

You’ll also get a free copy of my BOLD notion template (a 1-stop shop for all things LinkedIn content to stay organised) and a full LI page review ahead of kick-off so you know EXACTLY what to do to get yourself in gear.

This time it’s application only to keep the vibe check strong. We want to keep a small enough group so people can connect meaningfully, and ideally you’re a Solopreneur/self-employed (or soon to be). This course is for people who are ready to commit to this journey and put themselves out there. We’ll all help you of course, but you have to be ready for action. I also only work with people wanting to making high-value content for their target audience with long term goals in mind, I’m not about vanity metrics or quick wins. You can apply to join here. I’ll release the early-bird slots later this week so keep a close your eyes on your inbox 👀

My latest podcast episode is out this week, where I interview the incredible Daisy Morris (and you guys are the first to know). Give it a follow and you’ll be notified when the episode is released.

Anyway, hopefully that’s all you need to head into a great week 🔥

Stay BOLD,

Amy xox
