"Let your work do the talking for you" (is such a load of shite)

Over the 10+ years I spent working on people teams in corporate, I’ve heard SO many people use this phrase. Frankly, it’s absolute shite.

People bust their ass silently working themselves into early graves all the time. Where they think they’ll someday be rewarded for all the long hours, the family sacrifices, the sleepless nights and their shot-to-shit nervous system.

We saw when Microsoft fired employees of 30+ years over email that companies just don’t care. Employees are often just numbers.

This is why building your personal brand and having your work be visible to those around you is incredibly important.

Remember, colleagues move on - and they either bring the good people with them, or mention their names in rooms filled with opportunities.

Throughout my career, I got hired by the likes of Gartner, Thoughtworks and Twitter all without a college degree.

This was because I worked hard on my personal brand.

I had written blogs, shared perspectives on my LinkedIn, and built myself a small following as a result.

Every single time I did an interview - this was referenced (in a very positive way).

I actually think it was my ticket in the door.

In my experience, those in corporate who let their work be visible, are the ones who do extremely well.

It was also people who did (and were seen to be doing) the most.

Running initiatives outside of their role, mentoring people, etc.

They were doing the most, but most importantly - they were seen to be doing the most.

Visibility is everything.

I held a taster session the other day for my Becoming BOLD Bootcamp, and I asked the attendees what fears they had when it came to being visible on LinkedIn.

As always, the same 3 things came up..

This is all so completely normal. It’s also reassuring to understand that most people have the same fears about this, and actually, when we dig into them - they’re often completely unfounded.

The only reason people would ever judge you for posting content on LinkedIn, is because they’re projecting their fears (or lack of ability) onto you.

There is so much noise on our newsfeeds, but when you spend the time to understand what you love, what the world needs and what makes people feel something and can turn it into content - you won’t believe the response.

My Becoming BOLD Bootcamp (where I dive into ALL the above) kicks off TOMORROW, and I’ve got 2 spots left! You can checkout the details here. I’ve also included some payment plan options (scroll to the bottom of the checkout page) ❤️

If you take the leap and join us, this time 3 months you’ll thank your past self SO hard.

Things I’ve come across that I think you’ll like..

Alex Hormozi on DOAC, I loved this podcast. I thought he was a total bro, but he actually seems like a nice guy.

This TedTalk made me really emotional (ADHDers you’ll definitely shed a tear).

This clip about storytelling is wonderful. You’ll get tactics you can use immediately.

Have a great week everyone, and don’t forget to be BOLD.
